Value-added progress for 16-18 year old students
Value Added is a measure of the "distance travelled" by our students. It compares the A-Level and Vocational results of our students against the results of students across the country who started with the same GCSE grades.
- A score of 0.0 means students performed in line with the national average.
- A positive (+) score means students made better progress at Bulmershe than they would have at the average school/college.
Our 2025 Value Added Performance
| Qualification Type | Our Progress Score | Performance vs. National Average |
|---|---|---|
| A-Levels | +0.10 | Above National Average (top 40% of schools) |
| Vocational (BTEC) | -0.01 | In line with National Average |
Our high-achieving students (those entering with GCSE grades 7-9) who chose a Vocational pathway achieved a progress score of +0.52. This means they achieved over half a grade higher per subject than similar students nationally.
With a score of +0.10, our A-Level students are consistently outperforming national expectations, demonstrating the high quality of specialist teaching and academic support at The Bulmershe School.
Our A-Level students entering with GCSE grades 7-9 achieved a positive progress score of +0.20, ensuring they are well-prepared for their next steps in university or higher-level apprenticeships.
16-18 Performance: Student Retention
What is "Retention"?
The retention measure shows the percentage of students who completed their study programme (A-Level or Vocational) at The Bulmershe School. High retention is a key indicator of effective student guidance and the strength of the pastoral support provided throughout the two-year Sixth Form journey. For three consecutive years, nearly every student who started an A-Level at Bulmershe has stayed to successfully complete their exams. In both academic and vocational pathways, Bulmershe students are now more likely to complete their studies than the average student nationally.
A-Level Retention
Our A-Level retention remains exceptional, consistently sits significantly above the national average and reflects the high level of student satisfaction and academic tenacity at Bulmershe.
| Academic Year | Bulmershe A-Level | National Average |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 - 25 | 99.0% | 93.1! |
| 2023 - 24 | 98.7% | 92.3% |
